July Favorites

As the month of July is close to being over, I thought it would be fun to share things or experiences I’ve been loving this month. If you enjoy reading long literary or lifestyle pieces by me, you’re in luck! But if these types of posts aren’t for you, don’t worry because more thrifty photo shoots will be appearing in my upcoming posts. ;)

That being said, read and enjoy!

This Is Why You're Single Podcast

I recently discovered this podcast on Spotify and I have to share how much I love and appreciate it! The two co-writers of the book This is Why You're Single, Laura & Angela, are witty and truthful women. I have to admit, I've never been one to be interested in podcasts! I'm a visual person, and I tend to day dream or get bored just listening to people talk. But these ladies keep their topics interesting and hilariously honest. I love tv shows, books, now podcasts that describe life, adulthood and womanhood AS IT REALLY IS. That's what makes this podcast raw, they speak openly about the things everyone thinks of but never says! Covering topics ranging from relationships, loving yourself, dating, social experiences and more. Even if you're not single, listening to Laura and Angela opens up your mind. Listening to these ladies may even help you dissect and better understand deep feelings or things in your daily life! Check it out!

Zip Lining - The Canopy Tour - Saluda, NC

I had the idea to book a day of zip lining at The Gorge Canopy Tour (in Saluda, NC) as an early birthday treat for myself to ring in the next decade, since I turned 20 the following Thursday. I felt extremely lucky to have my adventurous friend Taylor join me, along with having the most rad tour guides you could ask for. Shout out to our zip lining guides Lucas and Ryan for making the trip extra special by catching me completely off guard when they surprised me with a moon pie while singing happy birthday. It totally made my day! -- This trip was a breath of fresh air for me, and I knew it was exactly what I needed. It's easy for me to get caught up in the day to day routine of work, school and always worrying about what I have to do next. So for me, having the chance to put my phone away, to be in nature and to do something super special was rejuvenating. All I could think of the whole time was, "I'm so lucky to be doing this right now." Zip lining is something I'll never forget and was also an opportunity to check off one of the many things on my bucket list! If you're not deathly afraid of heights, I highly recommend booking this zip lining trip to anyone!

Avocados!

I know this has nothing to do with beauty or fashion, but avocados have been a major part of my health and lifestyle lately! My friends tease me because I'm kind of obsessed, but let's be real, avocados are one of the cutest fruits around. AND YUMMY! (Yes, I have to admit I googled whether avocados were categorized as a veggie or fruit. Ya learn something new everyday!) - Horrible lazy food habits being revealed in 3...2..1.. - I don't know if it's just me, but I've struggled when it comes to eating a healthy on-the-go breakfast my entire life. It's always been a choice between an Eggo waffle, toaster strudel, or worst of all, microwaveable sausage biscuits. Yes, these options are easy, affordable and quick for an on-the-go breakfast but I've grown so tired of eating these things just for the sake of time and morning sustenance! Over the last 6 months, I've felt the pressure to be more aware of what I'm putting into my body. So as of recently, one of my favorite quick morning choices had been avocado on toast with a sprinkle of pepper on top! It's not too sweet, not too bland, and it gives me enough energy to get through the first half of my day!

Tea!

Something I have grown up my whole life apparently ignorant of is the world of tea and how many different kinds there are. About 3 years ago I was introduced to Chamomile tea, which I enjoy, especially when I’m stressed and my anxiety is sky high. (Also, I highly recommend Chamomile tea to anyone who is going through a rough time or struggles with anxiety, that tea helped me get through the lowest points in my life!) In high school (and still continuing) I've grown the obsession over coffee. But sometimes I want something warm and relaxing to begin or end the day with that's not as heavy as coffee. And I have to give credit where it is due, thanks Taylor! Over the last year of coffee shop hopping, Taylor has introduced me to the world of tea that I'll never leave out of my life again. I love trying new teas, and I encourage you to find a local coffee shop, be adventurous and try some tea! (If you find yourself in the Hendersonville area, The Ugly Mug has the best and most wide selection of tea choices in town, at least from what I’ve seen so far.) If you stumble upon a blueberry tea, get it. You won't be disappointed ;)

My New Hairdo: Ombre

Getting my hair redone is something I had been planning on doing this summer for over 6 months. I regularly go see Crystal Conner at Studio 191 here in Hendersonville for all my haircuts, and now hair color, needs! I've gone to her for going on 7 years and she has never let me down. Any haircut style, and this ombre she has done for me, is always what I walked into the salon hoping for. Whether it's your doctor, or your hair stylist, after being a client for as long as I have been Crystal's, you build a relationship of some kind because it's always a joy to see them. Crystal is one of the most kind, down to earth, and talented hair stylists I've ever met! Shout out to Crystal for devoting 5 hours of her Saturday creating this beautiful art work that I get to show off every day. I'm so in love with my hair! If you're in the area and are looking for an awesome hair stylist go see Crystal Conner at Studio 191!

As busy as the month of July has been, I'm realizing how productive this month has been for me as well. I finished all my summer classes successfully, worked my part time job, house/dog sat for extra money, went zip lining, celebrated birthday's for myself as well as others, got a new hairdo, and ended the month with being a bridesmaid in my best friends wedding. While my blog may project that my life is all fun and fashion, it is that, but it's so much more. All that being said, I'm breathing a sigh of relief as the craziness of July is coming to a close so I can give myself a little more down time to prepare for all the things that the next season will bring into my life.

I hope everyone is having a great summer!
